Jonathan Hackett is an Armagh-based artist, illustrator, and storyteller whose work is deeply rooted in the rich visual language of Irish mythology and folklore.

Drawing inspiration from ancient narratives, sacred landscapes, and cultural heritage, his practice reimagines traditional stories through a contemporary lens, blending bold digital illustration with symbolic, narrative-driven design.

His work often explores figures and themes from Irish myth, bringing to life characters such as Macha, Lugh, and Brigid with a distinctive visual style that emphasises colour, texture, and form. Through this, he aims not only to preserve these stories but to make them accessible and engaging for new audiences.

Jonathan is the author and illustrator of In the Heart of Armagh: An Angel & Gargoyle Story, his debut children’s book, which reflects his passion for storytelling and place-based narrative. The book combines imaginative storytelling with detailed illustration, rooted in the architectural and cultural identity of Armagh.

He is also the founder of Pixels & Possibilities, a creative education initiative focused on digital illustration and storytelling. Through this programme, Jonathan delivers workshops in schools and community settings, equipping young people with industry-standard tools and skills while introducing them to creative career pathways.

In 2026 and 2027, Jonathan holds the position of Artist in Residence at The Market Place Theatre, where he continues to develop his artistic practice while engaging with the local community through workshops, exhibitions, and creative programming. Across all aspects of his work, whether in illustration, education, or storytelling, Jonathan is driven by a desire to connect people with culture, creativity, and the evolving possibilities of visual art in the digital age.
